Google Chromecast 3rd Generation Review

Spread the love

Google Chromecast (3rd generation) is a powerful little streaming device. The First version of this device was launched in 2013 and later in 2015, Chromecast 2 was released. Google claims that Google Chromecast 3 is 15% faster than its predecessor. However, most of the Smart TVs come with Chromecast built-in. Google Chromecast has equal number of pros and cons. Detailed Google Chromecast 3rd Generation review is provided by us.

This Google Chromecast 3rd Generation comes with a matte Charcaol black finish and attracts less scratches and dust than the previous glossy Google chromecast 2.

One of the most annoying thing in this device is that this device is dependent on a smart phone to control it. There is no remote to control like in the case of Amazon fire TV Stick. This device can also be controlled using Google Assistant in our mobile or Google Home devices. Users must install Google Home App to control the device.  There are many apps supported by Google chromecast like the popular ones like Netflix, Amazon Prime Videos and Indian Streaming apps like Jio Cinema, Hotstar and ofcourse it will support Google’s own streaming platforms like YouTube, Google Play Movies.

The screen casting function of this device is bit laggy. The output video quality is upto 1080p 60fps while is predecessors was 1080p 30fps and 720p 60fps. Which is quite an improvement but still there is no 4K in this device.

  • Improved video quality
  • Faster than Google Chromecast 2

  • No 4K resolution.
  • Can’t be independently controlled.

Final Verdict

If you are using Amazon Fire TV stick or older version of Google Chromecast and willing to switching to this device then we would say that it is not a worthy upgrade. It is still not supporting 4K streaming. If you are yet to buy any streaming devices then you can go with this device as it is a little cheaper when compared to other devices out there. We must mention that it supports a whole lot of apps and other services. If you want to transform your normal TV into a smart TV with your mobile phone as a remote controller then, of course, you can go with this device.
